Self-Examination

Self-Examination

When a person does not quite know what is happening to them physically they will attend a doctor for an examination. Sometimes it is not quite that serious and at this point the person performs a self-examination.

In a world where any and everything goes, one might have such a need of a spiritual self- examination.

Satan is the god of this world and has deceived many into believing all sorts of evil things for it is written, “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” 2nd Corinthians 4:3-4

When we begin exalting ourselves, thinking we are better than others, justifying our wrong doings, we may have lost our way.

The Bible says, “ Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know not, your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except you be reprobates? ” 2nd Corinthians 13:5

Many of us have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savoir, but have began to walk about living as thought we have never met him.

The Bible says, “ This people draw nigh unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” Matthew 15:8-9

And again, “For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” Romans 10:2-3

This type of behavior should not be found in a servant of Christ, however we are all subject to losing our way if we do not examine ourselves daily in the Word of God for it is written, “ be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and straightway forgets what manner of man he was. But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty (The Holy Bible), and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:22-25

While going about our everyday life we are to examine ourselves hour by hour, minute by minute, to whether we are living the life of a follower of Christ, not taking a break from the Word of God to flirt with some lady, not ignoring God’s ways to yell obscenities with your friends about a football game, being forever conscious of the ways of God that we be not found guilty upon his return for it is written, “ take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” Luke 21: 34-36

Jesus is scheduled to return according to the scriptures, I pray that we do not lose sight of this fact and begin to examine ourselves less and less.

Jesus shared a story with us about two men, one was a religious man which attend church every week and gave financially to that organization, the other was not a follower of religion and did not spend much time in a church.

One of these two was wise enough to examine himself truthfully and the other was living a lie for it is written, “Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee (a believer in God), and the other a publican (a non believer). The Pharisee (believer) stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortionist, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican (non believer), standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.” Luke 18:10-14

Self-examination, many of us will check for breast cancer daily, some will check for wrinkles, another for hair loss, and others for prostate cancer, daily checks of the physical but nothing for the spiritual.

Beloved brothers and sisters I pray that we take our walk more seriously for it is written, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Roman 12:1-2

We are the light of this world and if our lights began to dim, how can we prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God?

We cannot become complacent! Thinking that we are doing God a favor, thinking we ought to be rewarded for living right for it is written, “ Does he (The Master) thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I say not. So likewise, when you shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, “ We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.” Luke 17: 9-10

My brothers and sisters in Christ I pray that you understand that Jesus die for the sins of the world and rose again that we may have eternal life, don’t lose your soul because you failed yourself-exam.

Until next time I love you
