Obedient to the will of God

Obedient to the will of God

Many of us today go about life looking to fulfill our goals, our desirers, our dreams, but is that what we were born to do?

Were we put on this earth to do our will or to do the will of God?

Many of us as adults have not been about God’s will, but Jesus at the age of twelve was all about the fulfillment of God’s will for it is written, “ and he said unto them, how is it that you sought me did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business? Luke 2:49

Many people today are all about their own business, and have no regard for God, this should not be.

The Bible says that we are to, “present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service.” Romans 12:1

Jesus told us that, “ who so ever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Matthew 12:50

Are you the brother of Jesus, are you the sister of our Lord and Savoir, and are you the mother of the Messiah?

Many of us today make the mistake of thinking that sacrificing time for God is the same as doing his will. But God will have obedience and not sacrifice; attending a church is not doing the will of God, writing a check is not doing the will of God, being a member of a religious organization is not doing the will of God, for it is written, “ This people draw nigh unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” Matthew 15:8

I pray that you are not living the life of a hypocrite, saying that you are doing the will of God, but truly doing the will of the world (Satan) for it is written, “ but what think you? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented and went. And he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, the first. Jesus said unto them, Very I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.” Matthew 21:28-31

Are we truly doing our Fathers will or doing our own version of His will?

No one can truly do the will of God unless there is a calling on their life by God for it is written, “ Many are called but few are chosen.” Matthew 22:14

When a person is called by God then they are lead by the Spirit of God, and if you are lead by the spirit of God, then you are not lead by your own lust (will) for it is written, “ but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust (will) and enticed. Then when lust (their will) has conceived, it brings forth sin and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.” James 1:14-15

Are we being lead by the Spirit of God, when making our decision or are we influenced by another spirit?

Jesus confronted some religious leaders about not doing the will of God, but doing the will of another spirit for it is written, “You are of your father the devil, and the lusts (will) of your father you will do.” John 8:44

We have to ask ourselves, did the Spirit of God lead us to do this, was it God’s will that I should covet after riches or the will of my own, was it God’s will that I should purchase that new car or was it my own, was it the will of God that I should marry that man or marry that woman or was it my own will?

What are you being lead by, is it your career, a woman, a man, your children, money, or
Fame? Are you living the life of someone who is doing the will of God?

Phillip was lead by the Spirit to preach to the Ethiopian for it is written, “ The Spirit said unto Phillip, go near and join thyself to this chariot.” Acts 8:29

Peter was lead by the Spirit to preach to the people of Joppa for it is written, “ while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, behold, three men seek thee. Arise therefore and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.” Acts 10:19-20

Abraham was lead by the Spirit of God to move to a different location for it is written, “ Now the Lord had said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show you.” Genesis 12:1

We have to ask ourselves, did the Lord send us to teach these people the Word or did we do it on our own, were we told to move to a certain location or did we go about it on our own, did the Lord lead us to build that church or did we do it on our own, was that marriage of yours put together by God or did you do it on your own?

It is obvious that we have our own will, but would not our lives be better doing the will of God?

Jesus has his own will but preferred that the will of God be done for it is written, “ Father, if you be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but your will be done.” Luke 22:41-42

God has a plan for our lives and would prefer that we be obedient to His will and not to have us go about our own will, while halfway serving Him.

Jesus even taught us to pray that the will of God be done in our lives for it is written, “ Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come. Thy (God’s) will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9-10

The example of not obeying the will of God can be found in King Saul, God told Saul to do one thing and he did another, so God sent his prophet to tell him of his mistake for it is written, “ And Samuel said to Saul, Thou has done foolishly: thou has not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel forever.” I Samuel 13:13

Another example of a person doing his own will was Jonah for it is written, “ But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tar shish from the presence of the Lord.” Jonah 1:3

But because there was a calling on Jonah’s life God’s will was still accomplished in his life for it is written, “ And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying, arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord.” Jonah 3:1-3

I pray that you are and will be obedient to the will of God, that you may fulfill your purpose here on earth.

Until next time I love you,

  1. Thank you.
This is at the very heart of authentic Christianity - what a "normal" Christian should be, but sadly not what an "average" Christian is. Our purpose in life is to align our desires with God's desires for us and in so doing fulfill His will for us.
    Great topic and well presented.
