Make Me Clean

Make me clean

If we have been in this world more than two years of our lives, we have already picked up some kind of dirt, some kind of filth, or some kind of habits that are not of God but of the devil.

This world was designed to make us dirty, but Jesus Christ came into this world to make us clean.

We begin our study in the book of Matthew where we find a man who is dirty looking to be clean and it reads, “ When Jesus was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if you will, you can make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him saying, “ I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said unto him, see that you tell no man; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Matthew 8:1-4

I would like you to notice two things, the first thing is that the man came to Jesus and worshipped him.

We cannot to cleansed from this world’s evil unless we come to Jesus.

Secondly, I would like for you to notice Jesus response to the man, Jesus said, “I will.”

Jesus will cleanse us from the dirt of this world but we have to come to him to be cleansed.

Now notice that this man suffered with Leprosy, Leprosy is an infectious disease that has been known since biblical times. It is characterized by disfiguring skin sores, nerve damage, and progressive debilitation.

Many of us suffer with other kinds of diseases that need to be cleansed like, greed, vanity, gluttony, drunkenness, hatred, lust, drug addiction, lying, stealing and so much more.

When we are infected with these things our condition is referred to as having an unclean spirit for it is written, “ And there was in their synagogue (church) a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out.” Mark 1:23

And again, “ For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of Jesus, and came and fell at his feet.” Mark 7:25

And again, “ And Jesus came down with them and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; and they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.” Luke 6:17-18

Come to Jesus!!! It is the only way that you can truly be clean.

Before Jesus ascended back into heaven he left us a message, which we will see here in the book of John as it reads, “ after that he poured water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel where with he was girded. Then comes he to Simon Peter; and Peter says unto him, “ Lord, does thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, what I do you know not now, but you shall know hereafter. Peter says unto him, “ you shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, if I wash you not, you have no part with me. Simon Peter says unto him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus says to him, “ He that is washed need not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and you are clean, but not all. For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, “ you are not all clean. John 13:5-14

Again notice that Jesus says that, “ if we are not washed (cleansed) by him then we have no part with him in eternal life.”

Also notice that Jesus is willing to make us clean.

Now for those of us who think that we can bypass what Jesus told us about being clean, let us read what Jesus had to say to these type of people, as it reads, “ Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. You blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like unto white sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. Matthew 23:25-28

If we think that we can continue to live dirty, continue to be filthy, continue to live is sin we are mistaken for it is written, “ For the wages of sin is death.” Romans 6:23

Jesus died in the flesh and rose again to save us for it is written, “ Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:25-27

Jesus can make us clean by his word.

Jesus can cleanse your eyes that you may no longer be blind by the evil of this world for it is written, “And said unto him, go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent) he went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.” John 9:7

The Bible says that seven unclean spirits came out of Mary Magdalene as it is written,
“ And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils.” Luke 8:2 so this proves that the longer a person is in this world the dirtier they become, Mary had picked up seven different unclean spirits.

These seven different spirits could have been anything, one could have been drinking, one could have been smoking, one could have been fornicating, another could have been lying, maybe even coveting after riches, all of these are evil spirits.

Come to Jesus and worship him, ask him to make you clean saying, “ Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your loving-kindness: according unto the multitude of your tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight: that you might be justified when you speak, and be clear when you judge. Behold, I was shaped in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part you shall make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones, which you have broken, may rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence; and take not your holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of your salvation; and uphold me with your free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors your ways; and sinners shall be converted unto you. Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips; and my mouth shall show forth your praise. For you desire not sacrifices; else would I give it: you delights not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Do in your good pleasure unto Zion: build the walls of Jerusalem. Then shall you be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon your altar. Psalm 51:1-19

The speaking of this Psalm unto God has made you clean.

Continue is his word.

Until next time, I love you.
